Do you not know that you are the temple of God?
Corinthians chapter 3
In Church Slavonic
9 God boes esmes helpers: God's burden, God's building is.
10 By the grace of God, to me, for I was wise as the architect of the foundations, but he edifies: he also keeps, as he edifies.
11 The foundations of the Bohemian or the Nogo can be laid more than the one that lies, the same is Jesus Christ.
12 But if anyone edifies on the basis of this gold, silver, honest stone, firewood, hay, walking stick,
13 When the deed will be revealed: the day will manifest more, the fire opens: and when the deed comes, there is, tempting fire.
14 (I) his case will continue, and the priest, the wages will come:
15 (a) it will burn the case, get rid of it: he himself will be saved, also like fire.
16 Do you not know that thou hast a temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in you?
17 But whoever has corrupted the church of God, God will corrupt this church: the temple of God is holy, and you know.
9 For we are co-workers with God, (a) you are God's field, God's building.
10 I, according to the grace given to me from God, as a wise builder, laid the foundation, and another builds on (it); but everyone see how to build.
11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Does anyone build on this foundation of gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
13 each case will show up; for the day will show, because in fire it opens, and the fire will test each one's work, what it is.
14 Whoever does the work that he built will stand, he will receive an award.
15 And if anyone burns it, he will suffer damage; but he himself will be saved, but so, as if from fire.
16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God lives in you?
17 If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will punish him: for the temple of God is holy; and this (temple) is you.
The apostle calls us God's building, which is based on Jesus Christ. We are God's building. This means that God takes care of us and we are not alone. He Himself works on us, wants to make His building beautiful and durable, attracts other employees to work on this building. However, each of God's employees, although trying to serve God, but puts different materials in us. Someone – gold, silver and precious stones, and someone – hay and straw, which are burned in the fire. For us, this means that if we put hay and straw in us, it will be hard for us when trials and the Judgment of God come – because hay and straw will not stand and burn, and if they put in precious stones and gold and silver, then our building will stand in spite for what.
What do you think gold and silver are, and what is hay and straw? It seems to me that gold and silver is what strengthens us in following Christ, helps us to hold on to the most important thing. This is a constant reminder to us about Christ, about the Father and about the Holy Spirit, about the Crucifixion and Resurrection, about what awaits us in the future. It is a call to live exactly as Christ commanded, a reminder that we are called to holiness. For our part, this is the memory of God's love for us and the willingness to obey Christ. To forgive, in response to swearing at us, saying good words, avoiding what bothers or angers, praying for those who offend, not worrying about what will happen to us tomorrow and what we will eat and how to survive, but rely on God, not to make money for the purpose of your life, but to strive first and foremost to serve God, to help the poor and not to be proud of it, not to condemn even those who sin openly and hard – everyone can repent. And straw – pious things that do not increase in us the love of God and neighbors, which are not about the main thing – maintaining long services and long lines to relics, fasting without oil, aggressive Internet disputes are happy with the truth – in this case we build from hay and straw, patriotism. Some of these things are not bad in themselves, but they are very secondary. You can be saved without long prayers, without strict fasting and without patriotism. And without faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and living according to the commandments, you cannot be saved.
But after all, it is about the fact that different materials are being invested in us. Can we do something ourselves? The Apostle Peter says that we ourselves must also “build up a spiritual house” (1 Peter 2: 5), probably, also not from straw, and Christ at the end of the Sermon on the Mount says: “So anyone who hears these words of mine and executes them, I liken him to a prudent man, who built his house on a rock; and it began to rain, and the rivers flooded, and the winds blew, and they rushed upon that house, and it did not fall, because it was founded on stone. And anyone who hears these words of Mine and does not fulfill them will become like a foolish man who built his house on the sand; and it began to rain, and the rivers poured out, and the winds blew, and lodged upon that house; and he fell, and there was a great fall. ” (Mat.7: 24-27). Many now care about healthy food and, valuing their health, reject the bad. Many aspire to some kind of goal and reject what hinders them. In the same way, we need to value our spiritual health, consider what we are fed, and put only gold and silver, rubies and emeralds into the walls of our house.
The apostle calls us not only God's niva and God's building, but also says in the end what kind of building it is and who should live in this house. We are of God, and He treats us with great care. How important it is to remember this and not to ruin this temple – yourself.
